I am a philosopher of mind with an interest in the self, consciousness, subjectivity, and value. In addition to my scholarly essays, I have also written for a general audience. This website features my writing in both genres.
Professional background
I am Professor of Philosophy at Rutgers University – Newark. I came to the US in 1989 from Budapest. I got my PhD at Rutgers, New Brunswick. I have been teaching at Rutgers University – Newark since 2010, before that, I taught at Yale for 10 years, and before that, I was a postdoc at Cornell.
I have just completed a senior research fellowship at the Central European University Institute for Advanced Study in Budapest, and a year-long NEH fellowship to work on a book with the tentative title What is left of the mind.
